Carson Wood Flooring is a wood flooring business based in Carson, CA, with more than 20 years of experience refinishing, repairing and installing hardwood. Most of the floors we work on are in the houses this part of Los Angeles County is built from: postwar homes with oak under the carpet, raised floors over crawlspaces, condos on slabs and manufactured homes in the city’s parks.

We started from a simple observation about those houses. The part of a floor that causes trouble is usually the part nobody looks at before quoting, so we look first.

That is also why we write things down. A floor outlives the crew that installed it, and the next person to sand, repair or replace it is better served by a record of moisture readings, finishes and repairs than by a guess. Homeowners, landlords and adjusters all get the same paperwork, in plain language, so everyone can see what was found and what was done about it.

Our Approach

Worker sighting along a red oak board for straightness in the garage of a Carson job site.

Every job begins below the finish. We check the subfloor for soft spots, swollen decking and weak joists before pricing any new floor, and we measure moisture in the wood and in any concrete slab before material is ordered, writing the readings down. New flooring sits in the rooms it will live in, with its moisture content logged when it arrives and again before it goes down. When water is the problem, we trace it to the source and record photos and readings an insurance adjuster can use.

We also work around the realities of older housing. Houses built before 1978 get lead-safe work practices, and old tile or black mastic is treated as a possible asbestos question before anything is sanded or scraped. Our finishes meet the South Coast air basin’s 275 g/L wood-coating limit, each refinish comes with dust containment and a written cure schedule, stairs are priced per tread and riser, and landlords receive written estimates and invoices they can use at move-out.

What We Do

We refinish existing hardwood, including screen and recoat maintenance coats, and install new solid, engineered, wide plank and herringbone floors, including carpet-to-hardwood conversions and hardwood stairs. We repair damaged boards, subfloors and water-damaged floors, and handle manufactured-home floors from the decking up. If your floor needs attention, use the form on this site to request a free estimate, and we will arrange a visit to look at what is actually there. You will leave that visit knowing what we found, what we recommend and why.
